Attention muggles for there is something fantastic coming your way. News is in that whilst it may not be September 1, you can still step aboard the Hogwarts Express! The original steam engine train had just been unveiled as part of the Harry Potter Studio Tour experience in England and to get to it, you don't even have to ram yourself into a brick wall at Platform 9 ¾. The must-see 20,000ft² section will include a number of fascinating features that will make fans of the series wish they had a Portkey just so that they can get there right now! Let's take a look at what gems are on offer and investigate whether the attraction is really worth the hype:
As two of the most successful franchises in recent decades, it's hardly surprising that fans have attempted to combine characters and events from both Harry Potter and Twilight. Trawling through the internet, I always encounter hilarious fan art that collides the two magical universes and I have decided to share some of my favorite creations with you. Get your Twilight/Harry Potter geek on and check them out. When you're done, let me know which was your favorite in the comments below!
After seven books, eight movies, and fourteen years of enjoyment, the Harry Potter fandom shows no signs of becoming any less popular. There is no better proof of that fact than perusing Tumblr. Everywhere you turn (click?) the Harry Potter generation is there pointing out some serious points regarding the fandom. The beautiful thing about the Internet is that it gives people a chance to see the series from another person's eyes. Sometimes it's beautiful and heartfelt, and others it's just...well, it's something. Check out these 10 more times that Tumblr users made absolute sense, and opened my eyes to certain truths in the Harry Potter series:
One of my favorite games to play has always been the "look-alike game". Essentially, that means picking a famous or historical person who looks like the regular person you are currently looking at. It can lead to a lot of "bad calls" and can also ruin friendships. But
With all of her hard work as a talented A-list actress who doubles as a humanitarian and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, I'm currently in the camp of thinking that Emma Watson is damn near perfect. Okay, I'm not saying she's totally flawless - she is only human after all - but she's certainly a great actress and positive role model.
So when Watson was announced to play the live-action version of Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, I knew that the iconic princess role would be in safe hands.
Belle's character is far more from just being the classic damsel in distress. She's opinionated, well-read, thoughtful, strong-willed, and she saves the Beast as much as he saves her. A perfect role for Watson, if you ask me.
There had been no formal announcement initially on whether or not the upcoming film would include some of the famous musical numbers that we all sang along to as kids, Emma Watson's Facebook status announcing her involvement in the film hinted that there would be some singing involved:
As highly as I think of the Harry Potter movies, they are still far from perfect. While sitting in the theater or enjoying these movies from home, I'm usually so lost in the story that I don't notice of the small mistakes here and there. And quite frankly, those small mistakes never really bug me. I'm usually more concerned with how true they stay to the source material!
Warner Bros. Thanks to the lovely people over at Moviemistakes.com, I'm finally able to see some of the goofs that are usually masked by crafty editing. The visible props, crew, and various continuity errors that I would have never noticed have been spotted and documented by this team of eagle-eyed fans.

None of these small mistakes really take away from the magic of Harry Potter, especially because I wouldn't have even noticed most of them if they hadn't been pointed out to me. If anything, it's a nice reminder that a lot of time and effort went into making these movies. Shoutout to hardworking crew members who snuck in a quick - but accidental - bit of camera time! In The Chamber Of Secrets, Nearly Headless Nick convinces Peeves to drop the Vanishing Cabinet above Filch’s office in order to distract him from catching Harry.
If it wasn’t dropped, it wouldn’t have needed repaired (obviously) therefore the final battle would have happened much sooner, probably before the students of Hogwarts could defend themselves.
Harry Potter: making people wish they were even just a squib in order to live amongst the magical. There are few things that have had such a huge impact on the collected hearts and souls of book and film fans quite like Harry Potter; creating magic and love for a franchise that will most definitely remain until the end of all things. J.K. Rowling’s genius and her world has influenced fans’ lives beyond mere entertainment; from memorable quotes, to realising the importance of love and friendship and everyone wanting to relocate and work in Watford… or Florida, Alnwick and Scotland just to be closer to the fictional characters they have all irrevocably fallen in love with. The grief that has lingered since the Order Of The Phoenix (when sh*t got Siruis) is something that we would not wish on your worst enemy – okay, maybe Umbridge – and then got progressively worse over the series of the last books and films where closest friends were cruelly taken and the journey ended. However, even now, fans have not fully appreciated the sheer enormity and dedication of Rowling’s plan for the series and there are a few things that we might have missed in the original books whilst we were in our glass cases of emotion.
24. The Entrance To Dumbledore’s Office
According to the book, Dumbledore’s office has a griffin knocker on the door. In other words, it’s literally a Griffin Door.
23. God Bless Alan Rickman
When you read the books and imagine the voice of Severus Snape, it really is just Alan Rickman being Alan Rickman. His emotions towards Harry throughout the films are exactly how J.K.Rowling expected him to act. And of course, it wasn’t hatred on Harry’s behalf, but the love of his mother – a secret that Rickman knew before anyone else did.
Rickman kept his secret for the entire filming process and even had to convince producers and directors to trust his portrayal of Snape.
Quite wonderfully, Rickman and Daniel Radcliffe actually had a Snape/Harry dynamic on set, according to the latter’s Reddit AMA:
“The first few years I was genuinely quite intimidated by Alan, just because of the voice and the way he sort of carries himself. But as I grew up, I realized he was one of the kindest and most supportive members of that cast to me.”
22. Lord Voldermort Parallels Adolf Hitler
Is the term ‘mudblood’ a coincidence?
It’s pretty much worse than the C Word in the wizarding world and while it probably doesn’t mean much to muggles in real life, it accurately depicts dictator Adolf Hitler’s opinion on minority groups. So basically, Voldemort’s rise and fall is similar to that of Hitler.
Yet somehow, you still wanted Professor Umbridge dead more than Voldemort, right?
21. Hermione’s S.P.E.W Campaign
A fighter for the innocent and vulnerable, Hermione sets up a campaign in The Goblet Of Fire in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves – in this case the House Elves so cruelly abused by wizarding families.
Her movement is similar to those Minority Rights groups set up in the 60s, along with The Geneva Convention in late ’40s after the Second World War that sought to show that such abusive behaviour should not ever be tolerated.
Sadly, the films all but glossed over Hermione’s activism – but it’s not at all surprising considering how much cooler they made her look.
20. Why Standing Up To Your Friends Is Worth 10 Points
At the end of The Philosopher’s Stone it seemed that Dumbledore just doesn’t like Slytherin and was struggling for a reason to give Gryffindor points in order to win the House Cup. But that was far from the truth, because the headmaster knew just how difficult it was to stand up to your friends, let alone your enemies.
The moment is actually an important call-forward to a revelation that happens later in the series. Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald were best friends (or lovers, depending on how you read the text) before Grindelwald became one of the most powerful dark wizards of all time and it was Albus who had to stand up to his friend for what was right.
19. The Marauders Map: A Prophecy?
As well you know, Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are the Animagi names of Remus, Peter, Sirius and James, as well as the creators of the map.
They also died in the reverse order of the names presented on the map.
18. “We Laugh In The Face Of Danger”
Sirius Black and Fred Weasley: both celebrated pranksters from their times at Hogwarts, both died laughing. It’s what they would have wanted, apart from like, actually dying.
Still hurts, doesn’t it?
17. The Power Of Three
The ultimate power and master of death: The Invisibility Cloak, The Elder Wand and the Resurrection Stone. By obtaining these three objects you can become immortal. On the same theme, there are three Unforgivable Curses, which represent the danger of power, and the lure of the dark side.
And the rule of three doesn’t end there. The friendship of Harry, Ron and Hermione – our Golden Trio – symbolises the power and strength of friendship: only them working as a threesome was enough to best both the Deathly Hallows and the Unforgivable Curses (as well as Malfoy and his two side-kicks).
16. The Chamber Of Secrets Reveals One Massive Secret!
If you read the Chamber Of Secrets, you uncover the truth that Harry is a Horcrux well before it was ever explicitly spelled out.
Towards the end of the novel when the diary has been destroyed, Dumbledore tells Harry that what happened at Godrick’s Hollow connected both him and Voldermort, which is why Harry can speak Parseltongue and see snippets from Voldemort’s life. Or in other words, they’re one person, with two souls. Click for 2° Part NEXT
The Harry Potter fandom has always revolved around the creation of incredibly detailed fan theories. Back when the books were still coming out, everyone was desperate to be the one to figure out what J.K. was going to do next, to dig through all of the released novels and try and find evidence of foreshadowing that would give the whole game away.
And while some of these theories were realistic and stayed relatively close to what readers knew about the books, other people went for broke and wrote involved analysis supporting their more outlandish theories. But the interesting/ridiculous thing is that a lot of them made sense, with some significant evidence to back themselves up; it’s easy to imagine a Harry Potter universe where these theories are canon. Now that all the books and movies have come out, and fans are starved for more content, the theorising has changed course into something that makes canon richer and more detailed, rather than just trying to guess ahead of time what the next big plot twist would be. The practical result of this is that re-watching the Harry Potter films is now a lot more fun; you can go back and imagine that your favourite fan theory is true, and spot evidence that supports it in the movies. Hey, if J.K. hasn’t come right out and declared it false, it could totally still be real. Source http://whatculture.com
Harry Potter continues to work his magic for Comcast Corp.’s Universal Studios theme park unit.
The Philadelphia-based media company Tuesday reported a 38 percent increase in profits in the fourth quarter in its theme park division, driven in part by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley, which opened in July in Orlando, Florida.
The attraction, an extension of an existing Potter-themed area that opened in 2010, had waits of more than seven hours on opening day. The theme-park unit’s revenue rose 30 percent to $735 million in the fourth quarter. Operating cash flow before depreciation and amortization increased to $352 million from $257 million a year earlier. “Investments in our theme parks are clearly generating strong returns as we drive increased attendance and per capita spending,” Chief Financial Officer Michael Angelakis said on a conference call. “We are transforming our parks into must-see destinations and are very enthusiastic about their potential.” The results are part of a wave of amusement park investments that have lifted profits and attendance at operators including Walt Disney Co. Comcast has an attraction based on Harry Potter, one of the most popular youth book and film franchises in history, scheduled to open at its Universal Studios Hollywood theme park in California next year. Even though the release date for the film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter companion book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is just over a year and a half away (Nov 18, 2016), I've decided that it's never too early to start studying up! It's what Hagrid would want. So just imagine that this is your index in Hogwarts' Care of Magical Creatures class. I've taken all of the 84 beasts listed in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and ranked them from what I think is worst to best. Worst meaning they're pretty lame overall, best meaning not only are they useful but they're really awesome.
Of course the Phoenix is number one. If Fawkes is any indication of the temperament of Phoenixes, then they pretty much have to be. Which of these beasts is your favorite and why? Be sure to let me know in the comments section!
